How Individuals Are Referred to CornerHouse

  • Any Agency Responsible for investigation

    • Typically Law enforcement and child/adult protection workers, but other investigative professionals may also refer cases to CornerHouse

    • When an individual discloses abuse, or there is suspicion of abuse, these agencies contact CornerHouse to schedule a forensic interview.

  • Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Approach

    • CornerHouse is part of Hennepin County’s multidisciplinary child abuse response team.

    • This team includes prosecutors, investigators, medical providers, and advocates and other professionals who coordinate together.

    • The MDT ensures that children are interviewed once in a neutral, child‑centered environment, rather than repeatedly by different agencies.

  • Caregiver Support During Referral

    • While the interview is happening, caregivers meet with advocates to learn about the process, discuss concerns, and connect with resources.

    • This helps families feel supported and informed during what can be a very stressful time.

Why This Referral System Matters

  • Minimizes Trauma: Children don’t have to retell their story multiple times to different professionals.

  • Ensures Safety: Referrals come from agencies legally responsible for protecting children.

  • Provides Access to Services: Families are immediately connected to advocacy, therapy, and prevention resources.
