Please join us for CornerHouse Summer Seminar Series. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about CornerHouse, Forensic Interviewing, and many topics related to maltreatment and healing! Each training will occur from 12:00 to 1:00 Central Time and will take place virtually on Zoom. CornerHouse will not be providing Continuing Educational Units, however, we are providing titles, descriptions, objectives, and trainer bios if you would like to submit/apply for CEU’s.

The Children Advocacy Center Experience: CornerHouse

This webinar will go over the history of Children Advocacy Centers (CACs) including why Childrens Advocacy Centers were developed and its importance in the field. You will also learn about aspects of Childrens Advocacy Centers and their use within investigations.  Finally, you will learn about CornerHouse Childrens Advocacy Center in Minneapolis, MN, including a brief history, its mission, and current services provided to clients. 

 

Objectives: 

  • Learners will learn about the history of Children Advocacy Centers (CACs). 

  • Learners will learn about the CAC model of care and its importance for victims and their families. 

  • Learners will be introduced to the services that CornerHouse offers.

Recognize, Respond and Report Abuse and Neglect of Vulnerable Adult Populations

Populations such as Vulnerable Adults and the Elderly are often at increased risk of being victims of abuse or neglect. As professionals, it is important to gain an understanding of the vulnerabilities and what we can do when responding. In this training, learners will gain an understanding of the dramatic statistics across the United States and become aware of this growing concern. Discussion will include this population’s unique characteristics which can impact disclosures. Then, learners will be given a framework to respond to observations or disclosures of abuse or neglect. Information will be provided on requirements for mandated reporting and how to make a report.

Learning Objectives:

  • Increase knowledge of data on vulnerable populations’ abuse and neglect.

  • Gain introductory skills in recognizing the abuse/neglect of vulnerable populations through observation and disclosure.

  • Provide a framework for professionals and the community to respond to and report abuse or neglect of vulnerable populations.

Recognizing and Protecting Youth from On-Line Exploitation

As adults it is imperative for us to understand grooming behaviors that are meant to harm youth, recognize behaviors in young people that may indicate distress and most importantly take measures to intervene and support youth when they may find themselves in an overwhelming situation.

 

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the terms and actions such as CSAM, Sexting and Exploitation

  • Recognize factors that may increase the risk of harm for youth

  • Describe grooming behaviors used to manipulate

  • Establish talking points for prevention and intervention with youth

Understanding Tribal Governance and What it Means for Your MDT Network

With over 570 federally recognized tribes across the United States, it can be challenging and confusing to understand jurisdiction, federal law versus tribal law and how to navigate partnerships and investigations. This presentation will introduce learners to different types of tribes, reservations, or nations and types of laws that govern these entities.

 

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize different types of tribal land/boundaries and jurisdictions.

  • Identify the differences between federal, local, state, and tribal powers and/or jurisdiction on Native lands.

  • Identify various blocks and challenges that can prevent effective coordination efforts between investigative entities when working with families on and off Native Reservations.
