Your Piece of the Puzzle: Responding to Child Abuse
A Train-The-Trainer Program of CornerHouse
Too often child abuse goes undetected and unreported. It is essential that adults who work with children have the necessary training to recognize the signs of child abuse and what to do when they see them. The Your Piece of the Puzzle: Responding to Child Abuse program is a train-the-trainer model where CornerHouse assists entities in establishing their own course, modeled after the original CornerHouse training.
The CornerHouse training model brings a curriculum grounded in current research, a developmentally flexible pre-assessment Protocol developed by CornerHouse (RIFCR™), and an emphasis on high-quality instruction through small class sizes and practice exercises. To implement this train-the-trainer program, CornerHouse works directly with local child abuse professionals to develop state-of-the-art courses that are tailored to the unique dynamics of individual communities. Following initial certification, every active program maintains an ongoing contract with CornerHouse, to ensure continued, high-quality training delivery.
With a focus on child sexual abuse, the day-long Your Piece of the Puzzle: Responding to Child Abuse training courses are designed for teachers, counselors, medical professionals, advocates, childcare providers, first responders and other professionals who must report suspected maltreatment. The course teaches the CornerHouse RIFCR™ Protocol for talking with children or vulnerable adults regarding suspected maltreatment. Attendees learn to discern normal child sexual development from concerning behaviors, the dynamics and disclosure process of child sexual abuse, and how to effectively report suspected maltreatment. Training methods include skill-building through practice, lecture material, video-recorded demonstrations, and group exercises. Comprehensive course materials will be provided including lecture materials and resource guides.
