The First Annual CornerHouse Gala

CornerHouse‘s First Annual Gala was a great success.

The aviation theme event was held at the Golden Wings Museum, in Blaine, Minnesota, on Saturday October 13, 2007. The museum displays some of the most rare antique airplanes from the ’20s and ’30s. It is one of the largest private collections of Golden Age Aircraft in the United States.

The day began in the afternoon with guided tours of the museum, open cockpit biplane rides, and helicopter rides. It continued with a silent auction. Museum owner Greg Herrick hosted the event and welcomed guests.

Victor Vieth, Director of the National Child Protection Training Center, followed dinner. His keynote speech “Shadow Children — The Child Protection System Through the Eyes of the Children” described the tragedy of abuse and the role CornerHouse has played in combating it.

The Gala celebrated the presentation of the CornerHouse “Sweetheart for Kids” Award to Dr. Alan Goldbloom, CEO of Children's Hospital and Clinics. This award is given by the CornerHouse Board of Directors to recognize dedication, service and vision on behalf of children. Larry Pobuda, CornerHouse Board Chair, presented the “Sweetheart” award.

Singer Mia Dorr provided music during the afternoon and early evening. The evening’s festive atmosphere continued as swing dancers enjoyed the Dave Andrews Big Band through the night.

All in attendance agreed that the event was fun and the venue a unique place for a gala. Suzanne Fedoruk, CornerHouse board member, led the Gala Committee.
